World Migratory Bird Day 2012 Trailer Launched

The World Migratory Bird Day (WMBD) 2012 campaign team is excited to announce the release of this year’s campaign trailer! The two-minute animated video helps explain this year’s theme Migratory birds and people – together through time, and is inspired by the 2012 WMBD Poster. It aims to enhance the viewers’ understanding of migratory birds and their relevance for mankind.

Throughout time and across cultures humans have relied on birds, be it to supply food, to deliver messages, or to serve as symbols of power and prestige. Migratory birds provide essential ecological benefits and services, such as pollination and seed dispersal, and the phenomenon of bird migration is crucial to the web of life. World Migratory Bird Day 2012 celebrates the cultural, social, historic, economic and spiritual connections we have with birds.

The video can be viewed online on the WMBD website and on the WMBD YouTube channel. A full version in English is available as well as versions with French and Spanish subtitles respectively.

We would like to thank everyone involved in the production of this trailer, in particular Mr. Dirk Räppold (website: www.formvorrat.de) who was recruited through www.onlinevolunteering.org and who dedicated his valuable time and creativity to the campaign. We would also like to acknowledge the contribution of our speaker Mr. Oskar Schlenker, as well as Duonità for the music used in the trailer.

We hope to underline the message of the campaign with this trailer, and we invite all stakeholders to make wide use of it in WMBD events and that it will help spread the word about the campaign online. We also hope to inspire others around the world to produce and share videos of their own World Migratory Bird Day celebrations.
