Senegal and France Cooperate to Support the African Initiative
Paris, 19 July 2013 - This agreement between the Direction of National Parks (DPN) represented by its Director Mr Souleye Ndiaye, and the Direction of Water and Biodiversity (DEB) represented by its deputy director Mr Alby Schmitt, allowed the establishment of a technical Coordinator for Africa within the Technical Support Unit (TSU) for the African Initiative of AEWA.
Abdoulaye Ndiaye, as a senior expert in African wetlands conservation, has officially joined the Technical Support Unit. During the past 14 years, Mr Ndiaye was responsible for capacity building in management and conservation of African wetlands for Wetlands International.
The TSU is now composed of representatives from two countries (Senegal and France) and four technical partners (DPN, DEB, Tour du Valat, ONCFS).
As agreed, Mr Ndiaye’s office will be located at the DPN in Dakar. His primary mission within the TSU in 2013 will be to organise a subregional meeting of the African Initiative for West and Central Africa.
