AEWA Small Grants Fund _ launch of the 2011 cycle!

Bonn, 5 May 2011 - The AEWA Secretariat is calling for applications from African countries for the 2011 cycle of the Small Grants Fund (SGF). The deadline for submission of project proposals is 1 August 2011. For more information on the Small Grants Fund and to download the Operational Guidelines and necessary application forms, please click here.

The AEWA Small Grants Fund, initially established through Resolution 1.7 of the 1st Meeting of the Parties to AEWA (MOP1), aims to assist developing countries and countries with economies in transition with the implementation of the Agreement. At the 4th Meeting of the Parties (MOP4), € 20,000 per year was allocated from the AEWA core budget for SGF projects in Africa, for the period of 2009-2012. In addition, a voluntary contribution was received from the Government of France for additional SGF projects in Africa in 2010. Thus, the AEWA SGF programme was launched in January 2010, for projects in Africa only, and a total of four projects were funded.

The Secretariat hopes to be able to maintain the Small Grants Fund on the basis of an annual cycle as well as extend the call for tenders to other sub-regions of AEWA in future. This will, however, depend on further voluntary contributions. The AEWA Secretariat would therefore like to make a strong plea to all Contracting Parties and partner organizations to seriously consider supporting the AEWA Small Grants Fund through a voluntary contribution.
